Profile Of Teenager's Face With Acne/problematic Skin Type

The Root of Problematic Skin

What is problematic skin? Problematic skin (AKA acne) is a problem associated with male hormones that can affect both men and women after puberty. In men, problematic skin often clears up after puberty, though not always. In women, problematic skin can affect them for a longer period of time, sometimes warranty long-term care. The complicated condition of acne also affects adult populations and sometimes occurs in conjunction with pregnancy or during stressful life events.

At the skin level, the environments that can lead to problem skin are the over-production of sebum (a protective oily layer on the skin’s surface) PLUS the excessive growth of surface skin cells. In excess, the oil and additional skin cells can cause blocked pores, inflammation, and more. Suddenly, a snowball effect can have the skin crying for help.

A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing

Harsh prescriptions for problematic skin treatments often cause side effects such as pain, redness, dryness, and peeling. This is due to retinoid reactions that occur when the skin is rapidly introduced to high levels of Vitamin A.

Myth Debunked

Myth: You need to “dry out” or torture the skin to limit the effects of overactive sebum production. Has anyone ever heard of someone using alcohol-based toner for this reason? Yikes!

Fact: More likely than not, the skin actually needs effective hydrating and vitamin-rich solutions. The types of ingredients shown to improve skin appearance are Vitamins A, C, and E, antioxidants, peptides, and growth factors. Environ’s cleansing and toning solutions work synergistically to prep the skin adequately for the recommended Vitamin A treatment options.

The Philosophy of The Clarity+ Environ Product Line

The skin is less likely to become problematic during the hormonal surge of adolescence when cared for with topical doses of Vitamins A, C, and E, growth factors, peptides, and antioxidants. Problematic skin is one of the world’s most common teenage conditions, affecting over 85% of adolescents and up to 50% of adults over 25 years of age.

Regular facials and dermatological checkups are a good way to ensure that at-home product use matches what would be done in a professional skincare salon.

“More than six decades of intensive medical research has conclusively proven Vitamin A to be the only molecule with the ability to cure of permanently control this common condition.”
-Dr. Ernst Eiselen, MBChB, FRACGP

What To Toss; What to Buy:

Topical solutions may assist to inhibit the effects of sebum production, limiting the effects of bacterial growth, and encouraging the shedding of dry flakes which clog pores. Dr. Des Fernandes, Environ founder, knew there had to be a better way to treat the skin.

“People with problematic skin should make sure to enrich their skin with specific agents such as Vitamin A, Australian tea tree oil, and bovine colostrum that reduce the effects caused by problematic skin.”
-Dr. Fernandes, M.B., B.Ch., F.R.C.S.(Edin).

Alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) or products containing Salicylic Acid (the hydroxy Acid Sebu-Clear Masque, 50 ML) can increase skin’s sensitivity to the sun, so stay sun smart; wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and/or a hat.

Daily Cleansing is the first step to attaining clear-looking skin. Environ’s Vitamin A moisturizer and intensive retinol products are able to help problematic skin’s appearance to improve over time in a gentle fashion while employing an efficacious blend of ingredients.

Sun Safety

It is well-known that using prescription-level retinol treatments means staying out of the sun. With Environ products, however, with a proper application of sunscreen, you don’t have to completely avoid the sun. ISDIN sunscreen is a great option: non-comedogenic, non-greasy, non-irritating, and a favorite for all skin types, problematic skin included.

Anti-Problematic Skin Tips:

  • Keep your hands away from your face
  • Evaluate Hair and Body Products
  • Wash or change out sheets and pillowcases weekly
  • No squeezing
  • Cleanse Daily
  • Get on a Vitamin A Step-Up Regimen
  • Be Sun Smart
  • Add Vegetables and Vitamin-Rich Foods to Your Diet

Unless you’re getting a professional extraction, leave visible break-outs alone. Don’t touch your face. Trust us, the blemish will be less noticeable over the course of its life if it’s not further irritated. Taking a look at other body products, laundry detergents, and hair styling products may have the potential to adversely affect the look of skin; look for organic and natural-based (no synthetic fragrances) cleaning products. Getting on a vitamin and antioxidant-rich skin care regimen will save headaches down the road, not to mention save you money on ineffective “band-aid” options.

The sun can be your friend or enemy, so always stay sun smart. Stylish hats and glasses are encouraged! Nourish your body from the inside out with foods like leafy greens, apples, nuts, and whole foods. Steer clear of sugar-based processed foods like white bread and cereal.
